The state public housing provider, Housing NSW, has an appalling track record when it comes to keeping the properties they own – people’s homes – in good condition. While there is a 24 hour hotline to report maintenance issues (1300 468 746) it is often impossible to get through to, requiring calls to be made in the middle of the night for any chance of success.
Once tenants do get through to the line their request is often lost in the system or can take months to be acted upon.
Luckily there are a range of organisations who can provide assistance with maintenance in public housing. I have produced a pamphlet on this that can be downloaded here. I have been gradually letterboxing it to public housing tenants within the City of Sydney but should you know anyone experiencing difficulties with maintenance in a Housing NSW property please feel free to pass this on to them.
