Reconciliation Park & Aboriginal Language signs

160310 Reconciliation Park Aboriginal Naming smoking ceremonyAs a long-time member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Panel I am pleased to see the City of Sydney finally introduce Aboriginal language Welcomes to our public parks. Former panel member and respected community elder Millie Ingram has worked for many years to make this plan a reality.

Last week I attended the unveiling of the first language Welcome sign at Reconciliation Park in Redfern. Local school children attended and we witnessed a smoking ceremony conducted by Uncle Max as the new signage was installed. I’m looking forward to seeing this rolled out across the City’s parks.
