I have been inundated with emails from concerned residents about a development application to demolish the historic Alexandria Hotel and replace it with an apartment block. Last week Newtown MP Jenny Leong and I attended a packed community meeting at Alexandria Town Hall. It was evident that locals are passionate about preserving this important heritage item.
The City has extended the exhibition period for this development application until 24th of July so residents still have a short amount of time to raise their concerns.
You can find the details for this development application here.
The application will be coming directly to a future Planning Committee meeting because of the proposed building height.
I am very concerned about this application. The Alexandria Hotel is an important part of community heritage. Most of the remaining historic pubs in Sydney have been internally refurbished. The Alexandria Hotel still has the original interior largely intact.
