Construction continues at Barangaroo. Since the original concept plan was presented the gross floor area has risen dramatically. The current, yet to be approved, modifications will see the gross floor area more than double when compared with the May 2005 competition brief.
The City has lodged a submission with the Barangaroo Development Authority which advocates for a strong presence of cultural and creative facilities in the Barangaroo Central precinct. The submission includes a recommendation that the BDA develop a public art strategy in conjunction with neighbouring authorities, residents and local creatives.
We are less than 12 months away from the announcement of the preferred developer for the Barangaroo Central precinct. Cbus property, Grocon, Lend Lease and Mirvac have all been invited to submit bids and we will learn which one is successful in July next year.
On a more positive note, work on Headland Park at the northern part of the site is very much taking shape. The park will feature an underground creative centre which will be dedicated to Aboriginal arts and culture. You can see images of the latest works in the Committee meeting papers here.
