Last week I opened the event to thank all the wonderful volunteers from the City’s Living in Harmony Festival. The festival brings together people from across the city for a huge range of events including talks, tours, workshops and exhibitions in celebration of the City’s cultural diversity. It was wonderful to meet some of the volunteers and witness their genuine commitment to community engagement.
It is so important that we take the time to recognise and celebrate multiculturalism both in Sydney and nationally. We often forget that people from all over the world have made huge contributions to our community. As a nation, Australian will never be comfortable with its cultural identity until we properly acknowledge our history as a nation of immigrants and the First Australian’s status as the world’s oldest living culture. We come together on what was, is, and always will be Aboriginal land.
