The asylum seeker policies of both major political parties continue their race to the bottom in pandering to our society’s most base xenophobic urges. This Wednesday, 13th June, I’ll be hosting a presentation by refugee rights group ChilOut, to be addressed by Phil Glendenning. Phil is director of the Edmund Rice centre and has led a research team that monitored the fate of rejected asylum seekers in 22 different countries. He has recently returned from a trip to Afghanistan to trace what has become of asylum seekers sent back there after being rejected from Australia.
Come along to hear some shocking facts and learn about what changes need to be made to make Australia a humane and compassionate nation once again.
The event is being held in the Council Chambers of Sydney Town Hall, 6pm for a 6:30 start, Wednesday 13th June. Event flyer here.
