M5 arterial road cancelled

In a victory for grassroots community campaigners Federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese this week announced that there would be no Federal money given to the building of the “Southern Sydney Connection”.  This four lane road, to run from the M5 to Sydney Park, would have required the demolition of a recently restored park in Tempe and would have turned residential streets in St Peters and Alexandria into complete traffic nightmares.  For more information, see this media release.

Congratulations to resident group Tempe 2020 and all other concerned locals who took action – the victory achieved here in forcing both the state and federal governments to back down is a ray of hope for communities everywhere.
