Ashmore Estate development public meeting, 22nd Feburary, Erskineville Town Hall

February 16, 2012 at 2:56 am 2 comments

Plans to redevelop the Ashmore industrial estate in Erskineville into a high density residential complex are coming left right and centre.

A view of what Ashmore Estate may look like (in grey) under plans currently proposed, as seen from Sydney Park.

While we are still waiting for the current state government to rule on a plan proposed by the previous government to build 22 storey apartments on the site (as previously discussed here) a DA is before the Central Sydney Planning Committee (also ultimately government controlled) for a development of up to eight stories on another part of the site.

Should all these developments go ahead as proposed the population of Erskineville would double, yet there is no plan for improved transport in the area, or for any sort of solution to the influx of extra traffic that will result.

Friends of Erskineville are holding a community meeting on the issue on the 22nd of February, 7:30pm at Erskineville Town Hall.  I will be attending and I would urge any residents of Erskineville, or anyone concerned about the future of the local area, to also attend.  More detail on  the meeting can be found here.
